| Yes, you can.
You would want to do this in order to replace a fan in the unlikely event of a fan failing – they are running at low speed and are not seriously stressed. Equally you might need to gain access to the power, data or control cables that pass under one of the fans to reach the front of the case.
However, the main reason for wanting to remove the Fan Cage is to pass ribbon cables through the Fan Packing Pieces that separate them.
In order to do this, first unplug the Fan Connector from the Resistor Circuit and pull the SATA Cables out of their retaining slits. You will then be able to lift the centre of the top part of the Fan Cage up, and spring it out from under the side flanges.
You will then see that the Fans are packed with Packing Pieces between them which also locate in the grooves of the Fan Cage. These Packing Pieces are made with slits. You can pull them out, pass ribbon cables through them, and replace them, quite easily.
While the Fan Packing Pieces are removed the Fans are loose, and can be taken out. This in turn releases the Lower grooved strip of the Fan Cage to gain access to the Cable Channel which passes underneath it. |
